Although Hong Kong is often dubbed as a concrete jungle, more than 70% of this dazzling city’s land is countryside with rich biodiversity. One of the remarkable aspects of Hong Kong’s environment is the large variety of butterfly species spotted in Fung Yuen Butterfly Reserve (鳳園蝴蝶保育區).
SCI/NUCLEUS cooperated with the Reserve to organize a “Fung Yuen Experience Day” event. Passionate volunteers helped to clean and preserve butterfly habitat by weeding and fertilizing. They also enjoyed a half-an-hour eco-tour to get familiar with the special features of each butterfly species and threat facing biodiversity.
