Hong Kong is one of the most advanced cities in the world, but it still has a long way to go on the right of people with disabilities. Change starts from self-reflection and understanding.
SCI/NUCLEUS initiated a Service Learning Project on DisABILITIES in a bid to raise public awareness and develop mutual understanding and respect. We kick-started the project with a “DisABILITIES Simulation Day” on HKUST campus on 24 April 2017. Participants formed a group of two to experience the real-life struggles of the visually-impaired, the hearing impaired and wheelchair users. This activity served as a first point to prompt participants’ self-reflection and understanding on the challenges faced by the disabled community.
